Silly Girls

Here are a couple videos of the girls, each doing their own silly thing. The first video is of Ada trying to nurse the headrest of her baby papasan. The second is a "hidden camera" video of Josephine singing songs from Cinderella. "This is Love" and "A Dream is a Wish" are the 2 songs she's singing. It's a "hidden camera" video because she won't sing if she knows she's being watched.

2 months

Ada is 2 months old today! She also had her 2-month checkup today. She is 11lb. 1oz. and 22 inches long. (She was 7lb., and 20" at birth.) She got her first round of shots today. It was a rough afternoon for her. She cried and cried most of the day. No fever yet, luckily. She went to sleep at 8pm tonight and hasn't woken up since, so I expect that she is down for the night now. *fingers crossed* The doctor thinks she might have thrush. Her tongue stays white all the time. Josephine had the same white tongue when she was a baby, so I'm not convinced it is thrush. We're treating it with medicine anyway, just in case. Other than that, we have a happy, healthy baby girl!

Beach

We went to North Myrtle Beach last week with Grannie and Papaw. We stayed at the end of an island where the waves aren't very big and at low tide there are some tidal pools and calm water. Josephine really enjoyed that. She wasn't a fan of the big waves, though. We also spent a lot of time in the pool. :) Here are a bunch of pictures from the beach.

We went to Ripley's Aquarium one rainy evening. Josephine wanted to show Ada the fish.


Josephine decided to be afraid of the sharks when we went through the tunnel. She got over it after awhile. I'm not sure what they were looking at in this picture.

Another gift Jo got from Grannie was a cd player. She turned into a teenager at that moment. She spent a good chunk of time ignoring us and just listening to music. She used it so much that we had to replace the batteries on the way home.


Jo wasn't a big fan of the sand, but she did play a little. They were building Cinderella's castle here. Everything is about Cinderella these days.

Big Sister, Little Sister

I got this on film Sunday morning. I had to share, I thought it was so sweet.

As you can hear, Ada is finding her voice now. She'll talk and smile to you after she wakes up or if you talk to her. I layed her on a play mat with toys that hang down this morning. I'm not sure if she was talking to the toys or the ceiling fan, but she was having a long conversation! She's such a good, fun baby.

Knock on wood, I think it's safe to say that Ada is sleeping through the night at least 5 nights a week. The nights that she wakes up, it is still just to get a "snack" then right back to sleep. She wakes up usually because her belly hurts or her nose is stopped up.

First Haircut

Josephine got her first haircut today. I've been trying to convince her to get it done for months now since her hair gets so tangled and in her face. Unfortunately, I had to bribe her with a movie to get it done, but she did it with no fuss once the movie started.

I didn't intent to cut it that short. It was wet when I cut it, then as it dried, it kept getting shorter and shorter. Plus, her hair does the weird flip thing at the end like mine does. I still have a lot to learn about cutting hair. Her hair does look cute, though. She looks so much older. Josephine says she likes it.

In other news . . .


Can you tell what that is on the paper? Jo wrote her name. :) With no help or encouragement, I might add. I wasn't even in the room. On the left, she wrote J-O-O. She forgot the other J and J was backwards, but I was thrilled. On the right, she wrote a J then an O above it. We're so proud of her!

Other than the colds all 4 of us had this weekend, we're doing well. Ada just keeps growing and growing. Josephine seems to do something new everyday too. Jo still likes having Ada around, and Jo is still Ada's favorite person.

Josephine has said the funniest things lately. Thought I'd share a couple.

"I don't like dark soda. It gives me a kick."

Ada was crying one morning. Josephine looked at me and calmly said, "I think she wants the boob."

Josephine and I started our first chapter book yesterday. It's one of the Hank the Cowdog books. I don't think she actually follows the story, she just likes hearing me do the voices. But we have to start somewhere, right?

Labor Day Weekend

Ada on her one-month birthday. As you can see, we started her on the passy.


Ada a couple days later. She's getting very strong. She can look all around.

We went to Boomsday Sunday afternoon. It was a total bust for us. Josephine and Naomi didn't want to do anything (the inflatables were way too hot to play on) and everything cost money. But I did get some pictures from the tiny petting zoo. We watched the fireworks on TV Sunday night, which Josephine enjoyed. She heard "Rocky Top" and she said, "The Lady Vols song!". : )

Notice the black goat behind Nathan? It kept headbutting Nathan in the rear. It was really funny.

On Labor Day, Nathan and I took the girls to New Harvest Park. We realized that we should have gone to the playground on Sunday instead of Boomsday! Josephine had a really good time. Ada either slept or drank a bottle the whole time.

Josephine is usually too standoffish to play in the water. This she actually got wet! I was thrilled!

Updates:

Ada is growing like a weed. She is so long! I need to measure her and see how long she is now. She is such a good baby. She is still sleeping a majority of the day, probably 18 hours at the least. She'll stay awake for 2-3 hours in the morning, sleep all afternoon, stay awake for 2-3 hours after dinner, sleep for 6-7 hours, eat, then sleep for a few more hours, eat, take a nap, then up for the morning. Nights are going pretty well. She usually sleeps for a 6-7 hour stretch at night, which is much longer than Josephine ever slept. It was a miracle if she would sleep 4 hours at a time. Once Ada stops growing so quickly, the night sleep patterns may change.

Ada is full of smiles these days. She smiles the most at Josephine and Nathan (and looks for them). She's starting to talk a little too. Here are some videos of Ada smiling.

Josephine reached an academic milestone this past week -- she can spell her name! She can't write it, but she can tell you how to spell it. I made up a song when she was an infant that spells her name, so she learned the spelling from that. She can also spell Ada's name and NaNa's.

We're having quite a time potty training these days. She has the muscle control for daytime at least, but she doesn't want to poop on the potty for some reason. She will only poop in a diaper. Even then it is difficult to get her to go. She'll hold it in for days. :( Jo had an ear infection this week, we asked her doctor about the potty training while we were there, and her doctor suggested giving her stool softeners so it would make it easier for her to go. We'll probably start those tomorrow.

Josephine started choir in Grannie Ratch's class last Wednesday night. Josephine loved it. She also has a Mission Friend's class after choir which she enjoyed just as much. She's a little younger than her classmates, but she seemed to do just fine. We'll be going every Wednesday from now on.

Good news about Nathan -- the pain in his abdomen is gone! We assume that the Prednisone (sp?) took care of it, which means that the pain was most likely caused by eosinophilic esophogitis, which is a bacteria in your digestive track that isn't supposed to be there. If the pain does come back, then we will call the doctor and set up another test. It's been almost a week, so keep your fingers crossed.
