Oh, the things she says.

Josephine talks so well now. But, as most kids, sometimes the things she says are really funny. I thought I'd share some of our conversations.

This one was from a few weeks ago during breakfast.

Jo: Mascot! Mascot! Mascot!
Mom: Mascot? Who's Tennessee's mascot?
Jo: A bear!
Mom: No, it's Smoky! pause Where did that come from?
Jo: He came from Africa.


This one is from dinner last night (we had biscuits).

Jo: I love butter. I love jelly. I love NaNa.


This is from two days ago while sitting together outside.

Mom: I love you.
Jo: I love NaNa. {This is often her response to "I love you."}
Mom: Who else do you love?
Jo: I love Moug and Curtis.
{It's a rare occassion that she says, "I love you, too." Although, I did get that response earlier today.}


This is from this morning in our bed after waking Nathan up.

Dad: What have you been doing this morning?
Jo: Raisin Bran!
Dad: You had Raisin Bran? What else have you been doing?
Jo: Diaper.
Dad: You got a new diaper? What else have you been doing?
Jo: Just pooping.
: )


No other conversations are coming to me right now. I'll share more later as I think of them.


The way Josephine says "Daddy" sound very British. It sounds like dad-day. When she says "Mommy" it is very American. It sounds like mom-mee. I have no idea why she pronounces them differently.

Josephine loves books, as I've mentioned many times before. It's getting harder and harder to put her on my lap (or what's left of it, anyway) and read to her in the rocker, so we will read on the couch alot now. She brings the book to me and sometimes I'll put the book to the side then pull Josephine up on the couch. She's so excited about the book that as I pull her up she does this strange, inhaled giggle and say, "I love this book!".

We think that Josephine is getting at least one of her 2-year molars right now. She's had a slight fever and looks pretty pitiful all weekend. But today she has been very aggressive and violent (and wouldn't take a nap)! I only got 4 of her nails cut, so I have alot of scratch marks right now. (Have you ever tried to give a cat a bath? That's what it was like trying to put her in time out today.) She also bites, hits, kicks, and pulls hair. She only seems to act this way if she's in pain, which usually means teeth are coming in. It was so strange this morning -- she was so sweet! She kept giving Nathan and me unsolicited kisses and hugs. Then the pain must have hit because she turned on us. I am so glad Nathan was here and not at work today. I don't know what I would have done without him.

Josephine has learned that she can get certain things when she's sick that she normally doesn't get, like watching TV/movies and medicine (she loves it, it tastes good). So, she'll argue with you, depending on what she wants. If you say to someone "She still has a fever," she'll say, "I DON'T have a fever!". She has the same response if you say she's sick. Or vice versa, depending on what she wants.

I hope she's feeling better tomorrow. If not, I'll have to call in reinforcements because I won't make it a full day alone with her. Not happily, anyway. : )

I'll put up more funny conversations when I remember them.

Easter 2008

Josephine had a great Easter weekend. Nathan was home for 3 days and that made Josephine very happy. On Friday we dyed eggs and watched basketball then went to play with the Randolph's -- a perfect day in Josephine's world. Saturday, Elizabeth went to Meredith and Greg's baby shower while Nathan and Josephine played disc golf with the Clinton boys, then we went to Grannie and Papaw's for an egg hunt and Easter Eve dinner -- another perfect day in Josephine's world. Nathan said that Josephine is wonderful at the disc golf course. She does exactly what he tells her (stand there, don't move, go there) and walks most of the course on her own. She gets to drink Gatorade when she goes to play disc golf, so that's extra incentive to behave. Sunday, we went to church, then we unexpectedly went to Ruby Tuesday's with Grannie and Papaw for lunch. Josephine did great sitting still and being quiet in the restaurant. After her nap, we went to Granna's for an egg hunt and Easter dinner. Josephine loved playing with Naomi and Aunt Leah.

Josephine isn't as obsessed with the non-fiction books like she used to be. She's starting to like the sound of the poems and following a story.

Josephine went to her first movie two weekends ago. We took her to Horton Hears a Hoo. She loved it. She sat on Nathan's lap with her bag of popcorn the entire movie and didn't move. The previews freaked her out a little because they were a little intense, but once the movie started, she laughed the whole time. If you ask her about it, she tells you that she saw a doggie movie, a panda movie and a Horton movie. There were previews for 101 Dalmations (the doggie movie) and Kung Fu Panda (the panda movie) before the movie. There are so few true G movies, that it was great that she was able to go see Horton.

Ada (the baby) is doing well. I am 22 weeks along with 18 weeks left to go. I can see and feel her kick from the outside now. Right now, actually, one part of her is touching my bladder the other is hitting the top of my stomach. Josephine always stayed sideways, so this is new. She should be about a foot long (which seems right, from my bladder to the top of my stomach) and almost a pound. I can't believe she's going to gain 6 pounds in 18 weeks and that my stomach will accommodate.

It's a girl!

We are going to have another girl! Her name is Ada Kathryn. She's not named after anybody, we just liked the name. Josephine is excited to be a big sister in July! We had an announcement party tonight for our families. Josephine almost "ruined" the surprise because she was yelling that the baby in the picture was "Ada!". Nathan and I tried to play it off, but she was saying it pretty clearly. We put a pink shirt on her that said, "I am big sister to Ada Kathryn." to annouce to the families. She likes the shirt so much she slept in it and insisted on wearing it the next day too! I should have put black letters on the shirt so you could see it better. Oh, well, lesson learned.

Josephine seems to understand what is going on with the baby. She knows where the baby is (below my bellybutton still), and that it's a girl, and that her name is Ada Kathryn. We've told her that the baby will be sleeping in the pack-n-play that is currently stored in Jo's room. She points to it almost everyday and says, "The baby is going to sleep in there.". She also enjoys watching the video of the ultrasound, but I think she just wants to watch something, she doesn't care what. : )

Ultrasound

Here is a short video of part of the 20-week ultrasound from this morning! The baby is healthy and growing right on track. It looked like it had 10 fingers and 10 toes, 2 eyes, 2 kidneys, a bladder, and a 4-chambered heart. I'll "annouce" on the blog whether it's a girl or a boy and its name this weekend. Nathan and I are having a party tomorrow to announce the sex to our families, so we're keeping it a secret until tomorrow night.

Nathan was holding both the camera AND Josephine while trying to film the ultrasound screen, so it's a little bumpy, plus the ultrasound screen does weird things when videotaped. Most of the video is the ultrasound tech measuring the baby's head, but there are a couple face shots. I would post more than this video, but either the videos are too large or we talk about "he" or "she" in the video.

The baby kept its legs crossed the whole time. There is a faint blue oval around the legs if you can't find them.


I'll update the blog with the big gender annoucement either this weekend or the beginning of next week (Nathan's birthday is this weekend, so hopefully he'll let us do something fun for him. He is very insistant on NOT having a birthday party or presents, though.)
