World's Fair Park

I took Josephine to the World's Fair Park today to go up the Sunsphere and play in the fountains. She enjoyed the Sunsphere as much as a 20-month old could. She didn't really understand what she was seeing, but she enjoyed it. She had more fun playing in the fountains. It took her a few minutes to get comfortable with them. After awhile she was playing in the smaller ones, as you can see in the video.

Josephine is talking up a storm these days! She's starting to use short sentences. I think her first one was "Cook, mama dada." Other sentences she's said are "Papaw wants waffle." and "Matt's disc, all gone." and "Read a book." She comes up with a new sentence every day or two.

She's finally saying other colors than "purple" and "black" again. She'll say yellow, red, pink, orange, blue, and some others. Shapes are an up-and-coming skill for Jo too. She knows circle, heart, and star. We haven't been practicing them much, but she's learning them somewhere. We'll work on square/rectangle and triangle soon.

I almost put up a video of Josephine screaming in her chair because she didn't want to eat her piece of carrot and a pea. We sat there for 2 1/2 hours because I wouldn't let her get down (or eat anything else) until she ate one piece of carrot and one pea. Of course she ate them for Nathan when he got home from work. Today, Josephine has not had any lunch yet because she's refusing to eat what I made for her (chicken and pasta and peas). She hadn't sat in her chair yet, so I'm letting her play until she's ready to eat her lunch. She's got to be hungry by now. I wonder where she gets her stubbornness from . . . .

Josephine is throwing the ball well now -- at home and at the Little Gym. For several months, she wouldn't throw it. She'll only stand a few feet away, but it's a start.

Puzzles are still a favorite activity. She's ready for multi-piece puzzles (multiple pieces that make up one object), but they're pretty hard for her. I haven't found exactly what I want, but I've asked Papaw to modify some that I had gotten, so we'll see if that works.

Anyway, Josephine is very excited to have barrettes in her hair. Her hair is getting so long it gets in her eyes so I pull her bangs back with a barrette. She's so proud of them.

Nathan was really sick last week with strep, bronchitis, and laryngitis. The doctor suggested that Josephine spend the night away from Nathan. Luckily, I had already taken Josephine to Grannie Ratch's that morning so I could do some things around the house. Josephine stayed there until the next evening after dinner. She wasn't happy to come home, she wanted to go stay at Papaw's house and read books. : ) She spent the night away from home 3 times in a week and a half. Once and Granna Lynda's and twice with Grannie Ratch and Papaw. She has done great each time, too.

Josephine loves cats!

I made Play-Dough for Josephine last week. She wanted to watch what was going on so I put her on the counter. She didn't quite grasp the concept of Play-Dough, but she enjoyed watching me make things.

She's 19 months old. What else do you expect?

Josephine has started finger painting. She won't spend alot of time on it, but she does enjoy doing it for short periods. The first time (in this picture) it turned into a body-painting session. Luckily everything is washable these days.

This obviously isn't Josephine. This is Emily (3 years)and I just loved these pictures so much that I decided to put them on the blog.

Josephine had a busy week last week. We went to the pool a couple times, we went to the zoo, had a couple cookouts, and various other small events. She is quite the swimmer! We got her a bathing suit that has floats in it. She can swim by herself in it. She rolls a bit when she gets tired and stops moving her arms and legs, but for the most part she can handle it by herself. The diving board is still one of her favorite things to do.

She learned some new words last week too. "Alligator", "hippo", "Amy" (a friend from church), "disc", "Matt", "buckle", "ice", "pool", "uh-oh", "all gone" (with signs), and some others that I can't think of. She's turning into a jabber-box. "There it is" is her favorite phrase.

Josephine is learning what red and green lights mean. She gets annoyed when we stop at a red light and will point at it until it turns green. When you ask her what a green light means she says "go". She's not able to say stop yet. She sits in the middle of the van so she can see everything. She also has an uncanny sense of direction. She will get very upset if we go past some place she knows (like Food City or Target) and can point in the direction we need to go.

Josephine is getting better at puzzles. She hasn't tried any that have more than one piece at a time, but she's very good at putting the singular pieces in the right spots. She has a new puzzle that has 8 animals on it and has never had any problems putting the correct animal in the correct spot. I'll try a multiple-piece puzzle next time.
