Six Months

Josephine and Naomi playing with water. It was a rainy day, so I figured it would be fun to play with water. My floors needed to be cleaned, too. So I wiped the floor with the wet towel when they were done. : ) True to their respective natures, Josephine didn't spill a drop on her clothes or the floor. Naomi had to change all of her clothes. : ) Notice that Josephine is in a dress? She insists on wearing dresses everyday and every night. I have to be ready for a battle if I won't let her. She likes them so she can "be a princess" and dance.

Nathan and his baby girl. I love this picture of them. It's also the first picture I've gotten of Ada with her thumb in her mouth.

Ada laying on the floor. She's so pretty.

I just realized today that yesterday was Ada's six month birthday. :( Sorry, Ada. It was a busy day yesterday and I don't keep up with what date it is. So I don't have a picture like I usually do of her monthly birthday.

Josephine loves to argue. I'm sure I've mentioned it before, but let me express how much she wants to argue with you. If you choose something for her (say, a pink shirt), then she wants a different shirt (purple). That's typical for kids her age, but she takes it to the next level. She sets you up so that she can argue with you. I'll give her a choice between two things (pink or purple shirt). She'll choose one then get mad when I hand it to her because she wants the other one. Or, she won't make a decision and I'll ask her if she wants me to make it for her and she'll say yes. I choose the pink and she gets mad because she wants the pink. One time, after I gave her two options and she wouldn't decide, I asked her if she was going to argue with whatever I chose and she said, "Yes.". At least she's honest about it. She'll argue even when she knows we're right. She'll ask what road we're driving on (she usually knows the name of the road). We'll tell her and she'll say, "No, it's ____," saying some other road that she knows is wrong. The arguing starts to wear thin on me as the day goes by.

We have moved Ada into her new room, which is Josephine's old room. Ada is still in her pack-n-play, but in a different room. Josephine got very jealous the first day and cried and cried because she wanted to sleep in her old room, even though she's been in her new room for months with no problems. Today has been better, though. Ada hasn't through the night since she's been in her new room. I'll go up to her room and she's rolled over onto her back. She won't sleep on her back, so she'll cry until I come up. I tried just rolling her back over and leaving, but that didn't go over so well. I have to nurse her before putting her back down. The problem with that is that she cries when I try to burp her. She cries until I put her back down in her bed and she finds her thumb to go back to sleep. Then she gets a belly ache because she didn't burp. So, she wakes up and rolls over. It's a vicious cycle. Update -- this post has taken me about a week to write. Ada is doing much better on her sleeping now. She slept for over 13 hours straight last night. She slept through the night the night before, too. I don't know what was causing her to wake up so much. Things seem to be back to normal.

Ada is blowing raspberries these days. She and Nathan have raspberry conversations. They take turns blowing raspberries at each other. I'm not sure who enjoys it more. She also does a breathy sound. I don't know how to explain it. It's like a hiss with out the ss. She does it when she smiles.

Every week we go to the library. They have a Baby Bookworms class right before Josephine's story time, so I've been taking Ada for about a month. She sits in my lap and listens to the story. I help her shake the shaker eggs. They're too big for her to hold them herself. She'd just eat it anyway. I noticed last fall how well she payed attention during Josephine's story time, so I figured I'd bring her to her own class. Josephine hides behind me or sits as close as possible at my side during Ada's class, it's so strange. But 30 minutes later during her story, I can't get her to stop talking about the book so the librarian can turn the page! It's the same librarians every week and the classes are in the exact same spot. There are only a handful of kids at either time and it's usually the same ones every week. I don't know why she gets so shy during the baby bookworms.

I'm waiting on Ada to start getting up on her knees when she's lying on her stomach. She can push her entire torso off the ground (she's been doing that for awhile now). Once she gets on her knees, she'll be taking off! Josephine was 7 months when she started crawling, and I think Ada will be about the same age.

Ada is still a thumbsucker. She holds her hand to the side instead of upwards like most babies. It's very cute. There's a picture at the top of this post of her sucking her thumb.
