Beach Bums

We took our first trip to Florida last week and stayed with Josephine's great-grandfather. Aunt Moug and Matt also went with us. Despite what the pictures tell you, Josephine did not like the beach. The water was too cold and she had to wear sunscreen, which she didn't like. She spent alot of her time in her cabanna playing with toys. The rest of us had a great time at the beach. The water was really cold, similar to the mountain water here, but you got used to it after awhile. There weren't many people on the beach since it was April so Josephine didn't bother too many people when she cried.

I couldn't believe all the cleanup that was left to do as a result of the hurricanes last year. Katrina being the main culprit, I assume. I'd say at least a third of the houses/properties were for sale. The more expensive homes had been fixed, but the ones that weren't in good shape to begin with were still damaged. You can see in the picture (if you enlarge it, probably) of Moug and our beach setup, in the background is a building of condos. The wall you see is the only one left, there were no other walls to that building!

Josephine Update:

  • Josephine wakes up every hour to two hours every night!!!!! I had to get out of bed 10 times last night. I finally brought her to bed with me around 7:30 am. I'm so sleepy. She either wants to eat or needs the passy. I thought it was supposed to get better as they got older, not the other way around! I'm reading a couple books on how to get them to sleep through the night without them having to cry it out. We'll see how it goes ....
  • For naps she doesn't really let me rock her to sleep anymore. She either goes to sleep in the swing or I lay her down in her crib and pat her while she holds my hand/finger (very sweet). Hopefully this will lead into laying her in her crib and she falls asleep on her own. Eventually, anyway.
  • She can push up really high with her arms now, getting all of her torso off the ground.
  • She'll get up on her knees when she's laying on her stomach now. Although she won't do it when she does her push up : )
  • She learned to make a sound, I don't know what to call it, when you put your lips together and blow out and it makes your lips vibrate together (no, not whistling). It's funny when she's trying to think about how to do it--she sticks out her tongue and a bunch of spit comes out.
  • Her favorite toy right now is a silver rattle. She can almost fit the entire end into her mouth. Her hand-eye coordination is getting better.
  • Still not rolling over from her back to her stomach. She doesn't spend much time on her back, though. She prefers being on her stomach.
