January 2011

No pictures with this post! I just wanted to post some details about the girls that I keep forgetting.

Josephine -- Jo recently had a checkup with the doctor and she is 44 1/4" tall and 40lbs. She has improved with her doctor visits. She let them weigh and measure her, listen to her heart, look in her ears, and take her blood pressure. Getting the shots were a little bit more work, but she didn't kick or hit anyone this time, so she's made great progress!

Josephine is enjoying Montessori school. She's a big 5 year old now and stays inside during the afternoon to do "bigger" work. From what she has told me, she enjoys ironing, polishing, writing in cursive, and a syllable lesson. She loves to help set up for lunch and also playing outside with her friends. Getting her out of bed in the morning to get ready for school can be a challenge, but we're getting better at it. It's also help that I'm waking her up 15 minutes earlier. It helps both of us with the stress level in the mornings since Josephine has no concept of the word "hurry".

Josephine is a very picky eater. Every morning she eats Cheerios with milk. This is also her usual snack after school. For lunch I pack her a butter sandwich (it used to be grape butter but we're out until next grape season), applesauce, strawberries, Cheerios, and graham crackers. Nathan usually picks her up, so I'm not sure what all she eats at school, but apparently Jo and Ada eat what is left over from lunch on the way home. There are a few dinners that Jo will eat. Her favorite is usually spaghetti (but only our usual noodles and sauce). She also likes tacos (meat and cheese only), and hamburgers (no cheese and ketchup next to the burger not on). She won't eat any vegetables and only a few fruits -- strawberries, apples (no peels), and applesauce.

Ada -- Ada is saying longer sentences every day! It took her awhile to get to this point, but I think she's catching up. It's funny when she gets all the words right but can't figure out how to put them all in the right order. After a few tries she usually gets it. She loves saying her colors and kind of counts to 10 or more. She only knows a few shapes but she will get there soon. She likes to call people on the phone to talk to them, namely Papaw and Ike Ike. Her conversations are usually pretty short.

Ada is the singer in the family so far. She tries her best to sing along with her Bible songs and her favorite song is Jesus Loves Me (or just "Jesus" as she would call it). Her favorite show is Little Einsteins which has a lot of music in it. This was Jo's favorite show at Ada's age, too. Ada calls it her "Baby Shows". She love to dance which involves a lot of spinning and hopping. Ada never walks anywhere, it's always a run or hop. Such a ball of energy! Until nap time. Then it can go downhill quickly. She is in her own big girl bed now (a mattress on the floor). She sleeps with her blankie, a small Dora blanket, a paci or teething ring that she calls a paci, at least one doll or stuffed animal laying on the pillow next to her, two small pillows at the end of her bed with one doll/animal laying on them. She still pulls her blanket up to her face with both hands and suck on her thumb to go to sleep. She likes Jo to sing her two songs, usually two songs from Alvin & the Chipmonks Squeakwel. Then, either Nathan or I have to sing her two or three songs. "Round, Round, Baby" (You Spin Me Round from Alvin & the Chipmunks) and "Jesus Loves Me". Putting her down for a nap or bedtime is still pretty easy as long as she is tired.

Ada is 26 pounds and 35 inches tall. She's a little on the short side, but she may just be like me. She favors the Moore's in looks. Actually, she looks just like her great uncle Terry with Naomi's smile. She is a good eater, though, despite her small size. Her favorite food is candy/cookies/cakes. She asks for them constantly. Ada likes to snack all day long. She's not nearly as picky as Josephine.

Suzannah, or "Mae Mae" as we call her, is over 10 months old now. She started crawling around 8 months, started pulling up at 9 months, and got her first two bottom teeth at 10 months. She started saying "mama", "dada", and "up" at 6 months and has added "down", "bottle", "cat" since then. Her top two teeth are about to pop through. She loves her two big sisters and follows them around everywhere. She also loves to play with her toys. This week her big things have been clapping and banging toys together and shaking her head no.

Mae is a wonderful baby. She enjoys playing by herself a lot, but also enjoys spending time with her parents after her sisters go to bed. She likes to sit on the couch with us and crawl back and forth between us. Most of the time she ends up sleeping in bed with us, but we're working on spending more time in her own bed. Nathan finally got his snuggler!

Pictures in the next post!
