No specific event for this post, just pictures of the girls. There's a small update on what the girls have been up to below the pictures.
Ada with static hair on the slide. She loves to slide. Not a fan of swinging, though.
Ada at the World's Fair Park fountains. She wouldn't get near them. But she looked cute with her hat.
Ada in her hat.
A rare moment that I put Suzannah on the ground with Ada around. Ada can be kind of rough and unpredictable.
Ada always wants to share her food with Suzannah. (You can see a cracker in Ada's right hand.)
Suzannah in her seat. I think it's called a Bumbo, but I always end up calling it the Bimbo.
Ada grabbing for Jo's watercolors. Again. Luckily, these watercolors in these small amounts are not poisonous . . . . Poor Jo doesn't have a peaceful art session if Ada's awake.
Sweet Ada. She's fun when you don't have to tell her no.
My favorite picture of Suzannah so far. Josephine took this picture. Suzannah likes baths.
Josephine actually gave me a natural smile for this picture. So beautiful!
Can you see the long hair at the back of her head? All her other hair is 1/4 inch long except for that one part that's 2 inches long. It sticks straight up when it's clean.
Smiling Suzannah.
Suzannah in her swing, where she spends most of her day.
Josephine went to Bible School at First Baptist one week so I got to spend some almost one-on-one time out with Ada (Suzannah came along and slept). Ada's gotten very little of that! Josephine loved Bible School. It felt strange taking her somewhere and just leaving her. She's never been to daycare so when I do leave her, it's with a relative. I had no reason to worry, though. She was thrilled to be there.
Josephine can be such a hard worker, especially if it a project, preferably outdoors. When it comes to cleaning inside, though, that's a different story. She loves to go to Granna's and work in the garden or help with any projects there. We've gotten a new trundle bed for her and Ada since they'll be sharing a room soon. It needs some new paint and Josephine is so excited about painting it. She wanted to do it last night, but I couldn't get Suzannah to sleep (because she slept the entire day) and my hands free to paint. We'll do it today or later this week.
Josephine's main focus right now is reading and writing. Not that she can do either on her own yet, but she is constantly asking how to spell words and writing them down. She has a sticker page of all the letters. She uses those when she can, but when they're all gone she will write the letter. Her pages look like ransom notes when she's finished with them. She seems to be doing one card a day lately. She's also (finally) started coloring (correctly) in coloring books. She's always had great fine motor skills, but she just wouldn't color. Luckily, patience is something she has and will sit and color entire pages now. We're very proud of her.
Apparently Josephine is very tall for her age. She's over 43", which puts her in the 90th percentile for height. She's average weight, so that makes her thin for her height. I guess she has the Carter genes working in her.
Ada is a handful. A fun handful, but a handful nonetheless. She will be two next month. Ada is into everything. We have to keep tabs on her constantly to make sure she's not doing something dangerous. (This is new for us. We could have left Josephine in a room by herself for hours and not had to worry a bit.) Everything Ada touches goes into her mouth, edible or not edible. I don't think she tries to swallow anything that's not food, but that doesn't stop her from putting it in her mouth -- stickers, crayons, paper clips, pens, bottle caps, random items from the ground at Lowe's, etc. She's very happy though, except when she's not. ; ) She's not eating as much as she used to, but she likes to eat often. Her favorite food right now is cheese. Just like her big sister. She walks over to the refrigerator and says "cheese, cheese, cheese" then starts to cry because you can't get there fast enough.
She's finally starting to talk a little bit. Nathan and I may be the only ones who understand what she's saying, but she's trying. She can say everyone's name (she calls Suzannah "Mae"). Other words are: "yellow" (all colors seem to be yellow to her), "cheese", "juice", "no", "mine", "car", "there it is", "come on", "slide", "eat", "cold", "hot", "eggs", and "wipes". I can't think of any others off the top of my head. I'm sure there are more, though. She has her own sounds for blanket (sounds like blay) , spoon and balloon (sounds like boon with a rolled b) and diaper (sounds like die). Nathan and I agree that when she learns to talk (other than "mine" and "no") she will keep us laughing. She's a really funny kid.
She doesn't seem to be very jealous of Suzannah. Sometimes she'll point to the swing or baby seats and say "Mae, Mae, Mae". I'll ask her if she wants me to put Suzannah in the seat. She nods yes. Then I ask her if she wants me to pick her up and she nods. It's funny and sweet. I'm glad she's able to communicate that. She and Josephine get along for the most part, although they love to irritate each other. I thought it was supposed to be the younger one irritating the older one, but Josephine irritates Ada as much, if not more, than Ada bothers Jo. I can't wait to get a bigger vehicle so they won't be sitting side by side.
Ada seems so big to me, but she's actually on the small side. I'm not sue how tall she is, but she's only 23 pounds. Maybe she'll make it to 24 pounds by the time she's 2.
Suzannah is a great, easy baby. She still sleeps most of the time. She sleeps through the night a few times a week. Even when she wakes up at night, she just eats for a few minutes then goes back to sleep. She's about 9 lbs right now at just over 2 months old. She's still a tiny thing, but she's grown so much! She's strong, too. She's starting to smile when you talk to her now. I'm anxious to see her personality as she grows. When she starts learning some tricks, I'll put it on the blog.
